Avoiding FOMO: Are you focusing on the wrong things?

When people start selling their products on Zazzle and they don’t get the results they want, they start to make up stories as to why this might be happening.

When I first started as a Zazzle designer I believed that the success found on Zazzle was through visibility. I thought that the products shown on the home screen and featured pages were the top earners and that I needed to have my products showcased on these pages to become successful. I was wrong.

So many of the feelings I was getting from not being featured were hindering me from focusing on the things I needed to be successful. The jealousy and fear of missing out(FOMO) did nothing to help me. In fact, it ended up hurting my sales.

If you have been in my shoes and looked at the Zazzle homepage and thought:

How can I get my products showcased?

Am I missing out on sales opportunities if my products aren’t featured on the Zazzle homepage or another landing page?

Do my products have to show up on the first page of the popular Zazzle product sort in order to make sales?

You are not alone. All of these questions are asked because you have a fear of missing out (FOMO) that is associated with visibility. You perceive the way you make sales is to be visible on Zazzle when that’s not necessarily the truth.

Demystifying the common misconceptions about Zazzle

So many of the misconceptions I had when I first started Zazzle set me back. I really want to help you to avoid the feeling that I’ve felt during my Zazzle journey so you can stop fearing that you won’t sell just because your products are not featured.

While it can be an advantage to being featured, this doesn’t mean it’s tied directly to your ability to make sales. It’s not a guarantee that your product will make a ton of sales if it is featured on the homepage. The possibility is there but we’ve had products that have sold well being featured on the homepage and some have not sold well at all.

The outcome can also vary if your product is featured on the landing page specific to certain niches. Jen’s products have made it on the landing pages and some did well but not all of the products were lucrative sales for her. People think that their product must be on the first page of the popular sort if it is to sell well. But that isn’t the only way a customer will see your product.

It’s important to remember that while these visibility opportunities give your products exposure, it doesn’t guarantee sales.

Sales are possible without your products being featured or on the first page of a popular sort.

Engage, LEARN, IMPLEMENT

What does it take to get sales results?

When it comes to getting sales results there are really two major things you have to do. Something we talk about in our The Creative CEO Mastermind™️ is understanding our perception of what’s real and what will get us results.

We have to take fear out of the equation to be able to present a product in the marketplace in a way that will generate sales. If you don’t set the products up the right way they won’t be successful.

Things That Get More Sales

These are the two key things that will get you more sales:

1. Create A Desirable Design

The design you make has to be liked not just by you but by the customer. One of the best ways you can make sure it’s a desirable design is by meeting a need that the customer currently has. It’s important the customer feels they are receiving enough value for what they pay for. This way it will interest them enough to buy the product.

2. Help Your Ideal Customer Find Your Product

This is where product promotion comes in. You don’t necessarily have to have a ton of followers on social media to create exposure for your Zazzle products. What you do need, is to have great titles and tags for your product. This way when you post your product into the marketplace you’re using search engine optimization that will help your product to be more easily found on Google searches and in the Zazzle marketplace. Another great place to gain more exposure is Pinterest. These are really awesome passive ways to promote your products and are super effective.

How to Avoid FOMO as a Zazzle Designer: The Bottomline

sell a million dollars on Zazzle

I hope you have a much better understanding of how you can stop having fear of missing out (FOMO) while selling on the Zazzle platform and instead use that energy to focus on the things that are going to help you make more sales.

Remember the perception you have isn’t necessarily what is actually happening. Having your products featured on the homepage, landing page, or anywhere else is just a bonus and while they can be awesome for exposure, they do not guarantee a sale.

Instead of getting FOMO over not having your products   featured on these pages, focus on creating a desirable design and helping your ideal customer find your product; these are what will help you get sales results.
