Living a Nomad Life in Europe's Playground: How My Zazzle Earnings Supported My Life in Majorca, Spain

Becoming a nomad or Living a Nomad Life — what does that mean? The word “nomad” is defined as “a person who does not stay long in the same place; a wanderer.” For some people, this can sound daunting or uncomfortable—for others, it’s a concept full of excitement and potential.

For Jen, it was the latter! Today, we’re going to be talking about how Majorca, Spain was Jen’s playground for 10 years, and how Zazzle made it possible for her to live her dream life because she did the work on her Zazzle business.

Even though she was in Spain having fun, she was managing her business and working on it as well. But her business was working for her, rather than her working for her business. So today we’re going to hear Jen’s story about living a nomad life through her Zazzle business, and what that really looked like!

Nomad Life

The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast is for you, the creative. We share actionable steps that you can take to make money in your e-commerce business. In each episode, we will take you one step closer to achieving freedom with your time, location, and finances.

We believe that a profitable e-commerce business is what opens the doors for you to start living your dream life if you work smarter, not harder, use the right tools and follow the proven roadmap. We’re here to give you the tools you need to make your dream life happen. Let’s dive into how to start becoming a nomad business owner through Zazzle.

Just in case you don’t know what Zazzle is, here’s the run-down: Zazzle is a print-on-demand platform that we’ve used to open our online businesses and earn income passively for the past fourteen years. As a designer on Zazzle, you can open up a store and start selling products. Every time you sell a product to a customer, you earn royalties from that sale.

Print-on-demand means that you are able to create digital products without having to stock up on the physical version, and once the customer purchases the product, Zazzle prints the product immediately and ships it out to the customer. On top of being convenient and quick, it’s also eco-friendly!

Ready to learn about becoming a nomad business owner? Jen’s here to tell her story!

Living a Nomad Life Through Zazzle

If you are new to our community, let me introduce myself. My name is Jen, and I decided to start an online business because I really wanted to travel when I was in university.

Living a nomad life in business terms basically means you can work from anywhere, so that was the goal back then! I wasn’t enjoying the university path that I had created for myself; I was in business because I wanted to study marketing, but instead, I ended up dealing with a lot of calculus and economics and things like that. I just wasn’t happy with where I was.

My mother, Elke, decided around that time that she also wanted to start working online so she could quit her nine-to-five corporate job. That was when we came across Zazzle and started our journey to where we are today!

So throughout my journey, the first step was to start treating my Zazzle business as a business rather than just a hobby. My dream to travel was still very much present. I ended up dating someone who was Spanish, and I decided to move over to Spain to be with him.

Crazy, right? But because I was in the process of becoming a nomad through Zazzle, it was a decision I was able to make. There were a few factors that went into this; I really wanted to pursue my relationship with him, and I wanted to make sure that we would actually be in the same space rather than doing long distance. By then, I’d built up my Zazzle business enough that I was able to move over to Spain and live there without having to worry about getting another job. Becoming a nomad business owner gave me absolute peace of mind.

Engage, LEARN, IMPLEMENT

How Zazzle Made Nomad Life Possible?

So long story short, I dropped out of university. The only reason I was able to do this was because I was well on my way to becoming a nomad through my Zazzle business; if I’d had to find a job in Spain, I wouldn’t have been successful.

I had no prior work experience to offer there in order to get a new job, I didn’t speak Spanish and the businesses in Spain weren’t really hiring people who didn’t live in Spain or who were of Spanish nationality; the unemployment rate was too high back then. But none of that was an issue thanks to my becoming a nomad through Zazzle.

My Zazzle business made it possible for me to rent an apartment, buy my first car and truly live my dream life. I had worked it out so that I had implemented The 5 Strategies™ that Elke and I now teach to our clients.

Because of that, I was able to walk down to the beach every single afternoon and just take some time off. I was able to relax and enjoy my surroundings; if you don’t know, Majorca is a beautiful island off the coast of Barcelona and Spain. It’s literally Europe’s playground. Everyone in Europe goes to Majorca or the Mediterranean for holidays.

On permanent vacation - Living a Nomad life

I was basically living a permanent vacation for those ten years and becoming a nomad! I would work on my Zazzle business in the morning, then I would take time off to go and swim or sunbathe or…whatever I wanted, which was the whole point of becoming a nomad in the first place!

I had a wonderful time becoming a nomad, exploring and living the island life. I was only able to do that because I had worked on becoming a nomad through my Zazzle business. It’s much more common now for a lot of people to have nomad businesses where they travel the world while working, but when I first moved over to Spain in 2011, it wasn’t truly a thing yet.

Living a Nomad Life
how to make money on Zazzle

Zazzle helped me become a Nomad living in Spain

People were hesitant back then to make purchases online; they didn’t want to put their credit card information out on the internet. So for me to move from Canada to Spain based on the fact that I was making money online with a business that I created by myself, it was a monumental risk. People didn’t understand it. I was definitely pioneering that area of business.

Even with the risk, it was a wonderful experience. Zazzle helped so much with becoming a nomad, because I didn’t need to be in a physical location. I just needed wi-fi and my computer. Of course, part of becoming a nomad business owner also means you need to be dedicated to putting in the work. When you’re your own boss, you really need to buckle down on your work ethic and make yourself put in the hours even if you’re five feet away from paradise.

What’s Your “Why?”

When it comes to becoming a nomad business owner, people have many different whys. Elke’s why was to quit her job so that she could spend time with her family and watch her children grow. Jen’s why was to travel the world. No matter what your “why” is, ours are “why” we teach The 5 Strategies™ the exact way that they are taught. If Jen had only utilized a handful of The 5 Strategies™ and not all of them, she wouldn’t have been able to do what she did!
