A Bird’s Eye View Gives You Perspective – Heron Island Story – How to Find Business Opportunities

I recently spent 5 days on Heron Island, in Australia. It is on the Great Barrier Reef. The snorkeling was amazing, both going out on a boat and from shore.

It is here that I witnessed a perfect example of how how to find business opportunities so you don’t miss amazing opportunities.

On the island, there was a jetty (dock) that extended far out from shore. The water was so clear and the visibility in the water was amazing. Standing on the jetty gave me a bird’s eye view of everything that was going on in the water all around me. More than if I was snorkeling in the water.

I was standing on the jetty and saw 2 sting rays and a 6-foot lemon shark swimming in the shallows. Then I saw an equally large stingray moving toward the shark. I realized they were going to cross paths. Next, I saw they were both coming close to a snorkeler. You can watch it in the video below. It’s pretty cool.

I Saw The Big Picture, The Snorkeler Missed Out

When you are snorkeling you look down to see what’s below you in the water. This snorkeler was looking at the coral and having a great time. She only saw the shark at the last minute when it was the closest to her.

But she did not notice the large stingray just out of her view. I know this because we chatted afterward. She saw the shark, and only for a minute, but not the stingray.

From the jetty, I saw the shark for over a minute swimming in the shallows. I also saw the stingray and noticed how they were coming closer to each other and the snorkeler. I had the bird’s eye view. I had the most time to see what was happening. I saw everything. I saw everything. I saw the big picture, which is crucial in understanding how to find business opportunities.

How to See the Big Picture in Your E-Commerce Business

Imagine how successful your business could be if you could see the big picture, find opportunities, and have time to take advantage of them.

To see the big picture in your business, once a month, start the day, by stepping back from the day-to-day work.

For each of your E-Commerce businesses, like Zazzle, do a monthly assessment of your earnings, your time worked, and your productivity. Also, assess what type of products were sold and what designs were popular.

Compare these findings to last month’s assessment. Can you explain the trends? Are they because of the effort you put into your business or is it due to seasonal sales or an upcoming trend?

Whatever you find, it will be important because you will have seen the big picture. Your findings will allow you to make decisions that you would not otherwise be able to make.

Get a Bird’s Eye View of Your E-Commerce Marketplace

Once a month, go on to the homepage of the E-Commerce sites that you sell on, like, Zazzle, RedBubble, Society 6, CafePress, and FineArtAmercia.

Do research on what is being promoted. Which product types and which design themes or niches are being showcased?

Then assess your stores on each of these sites and ensure you have these product types and design styles in your inventory. Make them if you don’t have them.

If you have them, are they selling? If they are not selling, find out why and fix it.
