Selling on Zazzle: 5 Zazzle Tips for Beginners

Welcome! Today, we are giving you five Zazzle tips for beginners on Zazzle, and we are so excited. We usually cover more high-level topics because we’ve got a lot of clients who are doing really well on the Zazzle marketplace, but if you’re listening to this and you’re brand new, we thought we would give you more encouragement.

After all, you’re starting something completely new, and you don’t know if it’s right for you or not. We want to make the transition as easy as possible because it definitely worked out well for us; when we first started, we were nervous and unsure, but so many years later, we’re so excited that we made that decision to start our Zazzle businesses! We’ve never looked back, and we hope that ends up being your Zazzle journey to success as well.

But before we dive right in, let us introduce ourselves in case this is your first visit. Welcome to The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast. We’re your hosts, Jen and Elke Clarke. We are a mother and daughter team that started Zazzle e-commerce businesses over 10 years ago and have sold over 15 million dollars worth and counting of products on Zazzle.

The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast is for you, the creative. We share actionable steps that you can take to make money in your e-commerce business. In each episode, we will take you one step closer to achieving freedom with your time, location, and finances.

We believe that a profitable e-commerce business is what opens the doors for you to start living your dream life if you work smarter, not harder, use the right tools and follow the proven roadmap. We’re here to give you the tools you need to make your dream life happen. Let’s get started!

Zazzle Tip for Beginners

What is Zazzle?

So the first thing that we want to talk about is what Zazzle is and how you can make money on it! Zazzle is a print-on-demand platform online where you can open up a store in an account and start posting products for sale.

The products that you post for sale are digital products in the beginning, which is why it’s called print on demand; that means that the product is only made or produced when the customer or client purchases the product.

This is quite cool because you can have inventory as a designer or a seller on Zazzle that doesn’t truly “exist” until the customer buys it. Because of this, you don’t have to have upfront costs or inventory or storage like you would with a physical store or some other online business platforms. As the designer or seller, you make money by earning a royalty when somebody buys one of the products that you designed, so you get a percentage of the sale.

Zazzle Tips For Beginners #1: Be Patient

Our first tip for those who want to start selling on Zazzle is to be patient. Zazzle really isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. If you’re coming from other more high-paced platforms where you can make thousands of dollars in one month just after starting, then, unfortunately, Zazzle is not the platform for you.

It takes a lot more time to get started and to build the foundations while selling on Zazzle, but you do have that opportunity to make it work in such a way that it pays off for you later because Jen and I, we’ve made over 1.5 million now selling on Zazzle, and that would not have been possible in some other places.

You need to set your expectations for your earnings while selling on Zazzle reasonably as well. Even two of our top clients, Brandon and Christine, didn’t make more than $10,000 in their first year selling on Zazzle. We can’t make any income claims, but we can link the podcast episodes where we talk about their earnings. Though they started slower, it wasn’t a prediction of their eventual success!

Zazzle Tips For Beginners #2: Use a Proven Plan

Tip number two is to use a proven plan when selling on Zazzle. No matter what you’re learning, whether that’s cooking, sports, or another kind of skill, you have to take the training, because you’re learning from someone else that’s already done it. They know how to do what you want to achieve.

If you want to start selling on Zazzle without anybody coaching you or teaching you, that’s great…but I did that for two years, and it didn’t work for me. Then I got help, and all of a sudden, I multiplied my income by ten times and I haven’t looked back.

And the same with the clients that we talk about all the time to encourage you. You have to be able to use the proven plan in order to make it faster and quicker for your success to come through. You can do it on your own as well, but if you don’t want to waste time, please consider getting some help.

We’re actually the only people who can help people bring themselves to six and seven figures in sales, whereas some other people who are doing any sort of Zazzle work are focused only on beginners and showing you how to set up your store rather than teaching you how to be successful in selling on Zazzle.

Zazzle Tips For Beginners #3: Focus on the Niche

Tip number three is to focus on one niche first and make it successful without spreading yourself too thin. A lot of our clients, when they first come into our community or in our Profit by Design Academy®, they have this vision of having multiple different stores.

They have so many different interests. They’re trying to work through selling on Zazzle in so many different niches, and it’s very overwhelming for them. We always tell people to focus on one niche when creating your store; first of all, because of the organization of everything, it’s a lot easier for you to start out like that.

You don’t want to have multiple different stores or have too many ideas within your store, because the organization within your store will get overwhelming. We’ve got a “Nail Your Niche” downloadable that we’ll link at the end of this post to help!

For you to give your clients the best version of the products that they can receive, you have to give them the thing that you are most passionate about or that you understand best. If you don’t have any interest in hockey, for instance, there’s no reason why you would open up a hockey store and do hockey-related products while selling on Zazzle.

You’ll have no idea what’s “in” within the hockey realm, the terminology, the style, the trends, etcetera. Instead, when selling on Zazzle, you really want to laser-focus in on something that you can provide to your customer that is truly yours.

Zazzle Tips For Beginners #4: Fight Off Imposter Syndrome

The fourth tip is to make sure you don’t let imposter syndrome creep in and stop you from doing what is possible for you while selling on Zazzle.

Paralysis of action is super prevalent within the creative community; many of us are empaths and judge ourselves very harshly, and that’s just the nature of who creatives are.

For people who don’t know what imposter syndrome is, it’s when you either get this feeling that you’re not doing something right, that you’re not capable of what you’re attempting to do, or that you’re not worthy of the success you might be seeing or might desire.

The word “imposter” basically means that you’re faking who you are. So imposter syndrome implies that you aren’t capable or qualified to do the thing you’re trying to do, even though you are.

Even though the thoughts imposter syndrome leaves us with are false, you can still have all of these feelings of overwhelming self-doubt that creep in and make you doubt your capabilities while selling on Zazzle.

It’s especially unfortunate because people are often paralyzed by it. We just had a Profit by Design Academy® mindset coaching call with our clients, and a lot of people were talking about this exact thing. I’m not going to share their personal stories, but there have been people selling on Zazzle who have literally had feelings of actual sickness to their stomach, and/or paralysis where they can’t get out of bed. It’s a real thing.

Just know that you’re not alone and that there are ways of overcoming imposter syndrome or preventing it. You have to take care of yourself and know that you are worthy of achieving what you want to achieve, and you should do your best to catch imposter syndrome when it starts to creep in, because it can be very detrimental to the beginnings of your Zazzle business.

Zazzle Tip For Beginners #5: Do a Little at a Time

Our final tip is to not overwhelm yourself while building your business and selling on Zazzle. Instead, do a little bit every week. Don’t take on a big chunk, because that’ll be overwhelming.

But the more you can say, “I’ve done a little bit now,” all of the sudden you’ll look back over the last couple of weeks or months and you’ll realize, “Wow, I’ve done a lot!”
