How to hold yourself accountable

To reach a goal such as 6 figure business, you have to use accountability as part of your tool chest. Accountability is not just publicly committing to your goals, rather, it’s about where you place your vulnerability, who you commit to, who can support you and how they support you that will greatly influence your ability to be successful.

We have identified five important things you need to do to hold yourself accountable to reach your goals, which we’ll share more below!

1. Set your goals correctly

Throughout our journey, we noticed there was a lack of understanding on how to properly set goals for a business. We noticed many people were self-sabotaging themselves without even knowing it. This is why we created the ERSD technique. This technique helps break down your goals so that you don’t get stuck on one and beat yourself up if you don’t reach it. By applying this technique you won’t be disappointed if a goal isn’t met. You should focus on setting your goals in a way that sets you up for success NOT failure.

ERSD Technique breakdown:

  • – “E” stands for “easy”. This is a goal you’ll set for yourself that acts as your starting point.
  • – “R” stands for “reasonable”. This is going to be a goal you can realistically achieve, many times a coach or mentor has the opinion that you can reach this target based on your progress.
  • – “S” stands for “stretch”.  This is the goal that you can reach if you work hard and push yourself to the limits.
  • – “D” stands for the “dream” goal you have for your business. This can be one big goal, or if that’s too intimidating it can be broken up into increments that are easier to work towards.

2. Publicly commit

Publicly committing to something can be intimidating and scary. You are telling others about what you want to achieve and now you are going to be held responsible for it! The helpful thing about publicly committing to a goal is that it can force you to think more seriously about them and it pushes you to take action steps to move yourself in the right direction to achieve them quicker.

While this can be really productive for you, you do need to make sure you commit in an environment that is safe. You don’t want to receive judgment from the person you committed this goal to. If you don’t end up meeting your target, you need to have someone who acts as your support system and motivator.

3. Report your progress regularly

This is something that can help you fix or modify things before it’s too late. If you can keep track of where you are in your progress you will give yourself a sense of commitment and time to self-evaluate to see what you can do better.

This will make you way more comfortable in the process because you won’t be worried about the goal deadline you have. You’ll know if you’re on track for success and you’ll be aware of any modifications you need to make to achieve what you want.

4. Surround yourself with people who are better than you!

This one sounds harsh, but it is necessary if you want to be successful. Take a look at the 6 most influential people in your life and ask if they have a positive impact on you. Are they people who you look up to and are inspired by? If the answer is no, then it may be time to find other groups of people who are more aligned with your goals and interests.

5. Get coaching from people who have achieved what you want.

You want someone as your coach and mentor who has already been where you are and who has already achieved what you want to achieve. These people will be instrumental in guiding you through the obstacles during the process. They will have solutions that you can easily implement and that will get you to faster success. Don’t underestimate the power of a strong coach or mentor!
