In 2008 I, Elke, worked in a salaried position and wished I could spend more time at home with my young family. I knew that to live my dream life I needed a passive income and I tried various different online ventures without success, until the day I discovered Zazzle.
Zazzle is a Print on Demand (POD) company that allows entrepreneurs like you and me to create an online storefront through which we can publish products for sale. Once the customer decides which product they want to buy Zazzle handles everything from payment collection to product creation and shipping. We as designers are then paid a percentage of the sales price as a royalty.
The country was in the midst of a recession and online shopping was in its infancy so opening an online store seemed crazy. However, I knew that being a Zazzle designer would take me on my path to my dream life so I jumped right in.
As with any digital business, Zazzle is not a get rich quick scheme. You have to put in the time and the effort to make it work. Over the years my business grew rapidly to the point that it outstripped my annual income from my salaried position. Not only did I make more money than I ever could working for someone else, I worked far fewer hours.

One of the greatest advantages of starting an online business is that you don’t need to be in the same location, or the same timezone as your customers.
When you work online you have a level of flexibility and reach of customers that you can never achieve in a salaried 9-5 job in one physical location. You can set your own hours and work on your business while you travel. All you need is a tablet or laptop and the internet and you’re good to go.
We show our students how they can create a successful Zazzle business working less than 20 hours a month. Christine, one of our Gold Zazzle ProDesigner level students lives in the Phillipine. She works in her parent’s business during the day and runs her own Zazzle business in the evenings. It’s the perfect side hustle.
I, Jen, also took advantage of the flexibility of working online and I ran my Zazzle business from Majorca in Spain for many years.

You don’t have to help them personalize it, you don’t have to take their order and you don’t have to package it up and ship it to them.
