But before we dive right in, let us introduce ourselves in case this is your first visit. Welcome to The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast. We’re your hosts, Jen and Elke Clarke. We are a mother and daughter team that started a Zazzle e-commerce business over 10 years ago and have sold over 15 million dollars worth, and counting, of products on Zazzle.
The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast is for you, the creative. We share actionable steps that you can take to make money in your e-commerce business. In each episode, we will take you one step closer to achieving freedom with your time, location, and finances.
We believe that a profitable e-commerce business is what opens the doors for you to start living your dream life if you work smarter, not harder, use the right tools and follow the proven roadmap. We’re here to give you the tools you need to make your dream life happen. Let’s get started!
Don’t feel overwhelmed thinking that talking about meeting a $1Million sales goal is going to be a complicated and complex topic – it’s actually quite simple! And – I have a feeling that if you’re here, you’re interested in making money on the Zazzle platform. So, with that being said, let’s jump right in!
When you want to sell a million dollars worth of product on Zazzle, a lot of your income comes down to your royalty. Jen and I recommend setting yours at about 10%, which is what you make on a sale. You could go higher, but that would mean that the product gets more expensive for your buyer. You want to achieve the right balance of price and profit, which is why we recommend 10%.
But let’s really break down the $1Million in sales (not royalties) on the platform in order to earn $100,000. That is with a 10% royalty, as discussed above. So now, let’s get into the numbers of how it’s possible to earn that much.
Let’s use the example of selling t-shirts right now. This is a low-cost item, which makes it a good example here. So, to earn $1Million in sales on a t-shirt priced at $20, you would have to sell 50,000 of them to hit that mark.
That’s a lot of t-shirts!
On the other hand, if you have a higher-ticket item – let’s say a suitcase that sells for $200 a pop. To make $1Million in sales off of this item alone, you’d need to sell 5,000 suitcases.
Now you can see how things break down to hit that sale marker and the calculations you have to do to figure out how to meet your $1Million sales goal. I know that this may seem like a lot to take in, but next, I’ll tackle how it’s possible to create balance in your business to achieve your sales goals.
I know that this seems overwhelming and you’re thinking – that’s a lot of suitcases to sell! However, I’m looking to demonstrate that these are two items that exist on the Zazzle marketplace that you can sell.
Furthermore, I want to drive home the point that your storefront should have a balance of high-ticket, low price, and more medium price items to help you make sales and drive up your bottom line.
That variety helps you attract a broader scope of shoppers and allows you to cross-sell more easily.
– A low-price item would be $20-$50
– A medium-price item would be $50-$80
– A high-price item would be $80+
Having an inventory of products that is varied, purposeful, and intentional really helps when it comes to working towards that $1Million sales goal, as you can see from this small yet applicable example. It’s all about balancing out your business!
Next, I want to talk about the timing you can expect to reach this $1Million sales goal. To demonstrate this, let’s talk about two Zazzle success stories from students of The Profit by Design Academy® and The Creative CEO Mastermind™️.
The first example is our client Christine. She has earned $300,000 of lifetime earnings as of December of 2021. Keep in mind that this is the amount she has taken home, not her sales number.
This reflects her 10% royalty earnings. I’m super proud of her achievement on the Zazzle platform.
Christine started coaching with us in 2017. Here is her timeline for earnings:
– 2016 – She was on the Zazzle platform on her own, where she made only $132 in TWO years
– 2017 – She started The Profit by Design Academy® to begin increasing her earnings
– 2018 – After her first year in The Profit by Design Academy® she earned $3,800
– 2019 – Continued with The Profit by Design Academy® and earned $33,000
– 2020 – COVID hit, she continued with The Profit by Design Academy® and The Creative CEO Mastermind™️ and earned $100,000
– 2021 – Christine continued The Profit by Design Academy® and enrolled in 1:1 private coaching and earned $150,000 in ONE year
The idea here is that throughout the training, things start slowly on the Zazzle platform. However, things gradually explode at an exponential rate to really ramp up earnings from year to year.
Brandon is my next example. His lifetime earnings as of December of 2021 are $330,000. Before he started working with us, he’d been on the Zazzle platform for 5 years and only earned $2,500 COMBINED across that time. Fast forward to the present day – let’s go over his earnings timeline:
– 2016 – He was on Zazzle independently and took home $500
– 2017 – Started The Profit by Design Academy®
– 2018 – One year after starting he earned $10,000
– 2019 – 2020 – Continued The Profit by Design Academy® and participated in The Creative CEO Mastermind™️
– 2021 – Continued The Profit by Design Academy® and 1:1 Private Coaching and earned $150,000 in 2021 alone.
Although Christine and Brandon had different journeys on the platform, they both ended up with similar income by 2021 thanks to their learnings in The Profit by Design Academy®. For 2022, they are both on track to earn the same if not higher income as they did in 2021.
It’s a huge accomplishment! It goes to show, though, that Zazzle truly isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme and takes time and consistency.
But if you go about it the right way, you can work towards a significant income on the platform.
I’m excited for our clients at every milestone they hit monetarily, and it’s because I can see all of the potential that exists on Zazzle once you tap into that consistency and knowledge.
