But before we dive right in, let us introduce ourselves in case this is your first visit. Welcome to The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast. We’re your hosts, Jen and Elke Clarke. We are a mother and daughter team that started a Zazzle e-commerce business over 10 years ago and have sold over 15 million dollars worth, and counting, of products on Zazzle.
The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast is for you, the creative (or non-creative in this case). We share actionable steps that you can take to make money in your e-commerce business. In each episode, we will take you one step closer to achieving freedom with your time, location, and finances.
We believe that a profitable e-commerce business is what opens the doors for you to start living your dream life if you work smarter, not harder, use the right tools and follow the proven roadmap. We’re here to give you the tools you need to make your dream life happen. Let’s get started!
So, while you may be uploading your product to many POD companies, there’s a feature on Zazzle called quick read. While you would think that a bulk upload is the most efficient and effective way to get sales – it actually may cause you to miss out on income on Zazzle. Because of the nature of the Zazzle platform, a bulk upload may lead to some issues that you’re not realizing. That’s what I want to tell you about today!
What Is Bulk Uploading?
Let’s start with the basics – what is bulk uploading anyways? Many of the big POD platforms have this capability and you can add your design to many products at one time. There are even programs that let you upload to multiple POD )Print on Demand) sites all at once. You pick your image file and then let the automatic uploader do the rest.
You may experience that bulk uploading is a great option for other print on demand platforms like Society6, RedBubble etc., but when you use it for Zazzle, bulk loading is not as advantageous. Whether you use an uploading app or use Zazzle’s own bulk upload option called Quick Create, there are disadvantages that outweigh the advantages. You can take an image and graphic and upload it to a bunch of different products on the platform, and then you can add the metadata for the products in one pass, but since each product has the identical title and tags, the searchability is reduced for several reasons.
Engage, LEARN, IMPLEMENT
Improving Product SEO by Listing Items Individually
On Zazzle, the Quick Create upload feature only allows you to add one set of keyword tags and one title to each of your products. On the other hand, if you post each item for sale individually, rather than using bulk upload, you can add a variety of keywords to different products that each have the same design.
It’s important to remember that each product listed is actually it’s own website page, like a blog post. That means that if you post hundreds of products that have the same design on it and every one of them also has the exact same metadata, then the SEO of the product is not as effective and can affect the site ranking.
Niche Down with Customized Products
Another key distinction between other POD sites and Zazzle is that Zazzle has a real time customization option. As a seller on Zazzle you can make designs that have customizable options like adding text and photos to further enhance the designs you add. This unique feature not only draws people to Zazzle but also allows the seller to sell to many different customers without changing their design because each customer can make the original design their own using the text and photo templates.
This will enhance the design and increase your chance of making sales. It also allows you to stage your design in a different way to make it more appealing to your audience. Different sample texts on different product listings with the exact same design allow you as the seller multipurpose your design to target different niches and uses. For instance, if you’re selling a business card and you put sample text on one listing for the construction industry, you can position it as a wedding planner in a different listing just based on the text.
Bulk uploading has advantages but may not be as lucrative when used to sell products on Zazzle: The Bottom Line
More specific products that are better optimized for SEO and that are more targeted for niche sales will likely sell better than bulk upload products on Zazzle. Although this takes a bit of extra time, it can make a huge difference in your sales – and sales are the reason you’re on the Zazzle platform in the first place! Set yourself up to thrive on Zazzle by taking this extra time to make the most out of every product listing.
