Insights on the Zazzle Paper Product Types

Zazzle is an amazing online eCommerce platform where artists can design over a thousand different products and post them for sale to earn an income. One of the biggest niches on Zazzle is its paper products. Any paper product to do with weddings, birthdays, graduations and celebrations, etc is extremely popular on Zazzle. Over the years, Zazzle has realized that this niche has started to grow and expand. Paper products were becoming one of the most made and sold products on the Zazzle website. Because of this Zazzle recently set specific product types for each usage of a paper product to help with the search ability for customers on Zazzle.

For example, previously if you searched for ‘invitations’ the product results were not only invitations. Announcements, RSVP cards, holiday cards, and more paper types were included. It was hard for customers to search for a specific paper product type. That is why Zazzle announced the recent ‘Paper Breakout’ initiative to properly organize paper product types for designers and customers.

The three main accomplishments of the ‘Paper Breakout’ are:

  1. Customers have an easier time searching for and finding the paper products they are looking for.
  2. Designers can place their designs on specific usage paper products and have an easier time marketing them.
  3. Zazzle can easily search for the most relevant designs and products, both internally on Zazzle and externally for SEO.

How does the Paper Breakout Affect Your Current Zazzle Designs?

Zazzle has migrated all previous paper product designs to new the new paper product types which match the designer’s original intention for the design.

They have also changed the preview for some of the paper product types so that the paper texture and quality were shown.

Some paper product types, such as invitations, are now shown on a styled photography-type background. This preview gives customers a chance to understand what the product would look like in a realistic setting.

By seeing this, the customer is more likely to click on the ‘Add to Cart button.

How To Monitor Your Current Designs During the Product Migration Process

The migration process for the existing paper product designs is still currently in progress (stated on the Zazzle blog two weeks ago). While this process is undergoing, Zazzle recommends that all designers check their current paper product designs to make sure that they have been switched over properly.

If you think that the product is not correct for what your design intention was, you should report the product to the Zazzle team. You can do this easily by scrolling down to the ‘report this product’ button under the design. A pop-up will appear. Click on the ‘this product does not belong in this category’ option. Then describe in the box provided which product you want it to be switched to.

Where to Find the Right Templates for the New Paper Product Types

In order to design the right paper product type, you need to know where to find the product links. Searching for a specific paper product in the Zazzle search option can be a bit misleading.

When you search for the term ‘holiday card’, the first product that shows up is an invitation template that says ‘your image here’. You might think that you can use this product to customize and create your own design to sell. However, you are not able to do this. It is a design that someone has posted for sale and you can not customize it and sell it as your own.

Instead, choose one of these 2 options to start with the right blank Zazzle product:

  1. Click on the ‘create your own’ button on Zazzle and search for the product you would like using their categories.
  2. go to the Zazzle Blanks store on Zazzle and look through the products and choose which one you want.

the Zazzle Blanks store on Zazzle is where all of Zazzle’s products can be easily found and customized to sell as your own. By creating products this way, you are not confused as to if you can use the product or not sell with your own design. The Zazzle Blanks store can be found here.

All of Zazzle's product types can be found in the Zazzle Blanks store. You can customize each product and sell as your own.

Start Designing and Choosing the Right Proper Paper Product Type Categories

Zazzle has done immense research to better understand the search words and terms that customers use to find certain paper products. With their findings, they have broken down their new paper product types into 7 different categories. You can find out what the categories are by looking at the article Zazzle posted about the Paper Breakout here.

What you need to do now is understand under which category your design falls so that you can choose the correct paper product type to begin creating your product for sale. This will help improve the search results for customers and make it easier for them to find your paper product designs on Zazzle.

Make Matching Products to Your New Paper Product Types

Once you have started to design your new paper products, make matching products to go along with your design. You can find all the matching product templates on the Zazzle Blanks store. I made a lemon-themed wedding invitation design on one of the new paper products. I then made matching products to complete my suite. When you create matching products you increase your chances of selling multiple types of products to one customer.
