The idea of a standard 9-to-5 job can be enticing because it’s generally perceived as secure. We think that we’ll have a steady income, never get fired and we don’t have to put down any money in order to gain profit.
When COVID hit, many people lost that security in an instant. We were able to see firsthand that generating wealth through entrepreneurship was actually more stable and secure than working a standard corporate job.
Since we’d set ourselves up to function even in times of emergency, our income didn’t suffer. The benefit of entrepreneurship during these difficult times has been that you can create a flexible “foolproof” business to help you generate wealth, regardless of circumstances.
Before the pandemic, working from home or anywhere in the world was convenient, but not necessary. However, now the reality of working in an office space or shared environment is much different. If we are unable to work from home, we’re washing our hands, wearing masks, eating privately in shared spaces, but still at risk to get sick or worse. Because our business was always operating online, we had the flexibility to stay safe while still generating income.
COVID isn’t the only scenario that could affect your ability to maintain your job and take care of yourself and your family. Entrepreneurship gives you the opportunity to prepare for almost any situation so that you’re not in a compromised position if an emergency happens. With an online business, you have control over how you generate wealth.
COVID came out of nowhere, and one thing that we’ve learned from this experience is how to ensure that our business is flexible enough to adapt to whatever scenario is at hand. Various more traditional businesses had to halt production, change their distribution, and make many more adjustments in order to stay afloat.
Ensuring that you have an emergency fund to support you during times of change will give you time to pivot to any situation. Being an entrepreneur gives you the ability to implement strategic action steps so that you’re never stuck. Online businesses allow you to pivot quickly and easily so you can continue to generate income.
Preparing an “exit strategy” means preparing a plan to leave your online business or have it working for you where you’re not physically working for it all the time. Because of the platform we use, Zazzle, we’re able to generate income even though we’re not necessarily at the computer all day long physically. You want your business to work for you, not the other way around.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget this element of your business plan, especially if you’ve just created your business. However, leaving your business should always be kept in mind with each step.
If your business only has one form of income, it’s more vulnerable to changes in circumstances that might happen in the future. However, if you use some of your earnings to create multiple sources of income, you’ll have an added layer of security if an emergency happens.
Do some research and use some of your earnings to invest so that your money is making you more money. COVID taught us that you can’t just rely on one form of income. When you’re doing research, ask yourself “What form of income is problem proof?” The online space ensures security and a long-term solution to generating wealth.
