Hey, there, friends. Today we have a very special guest, one of our own clients. Her name is Wendy, and she has been with us for a couple of years now. She’s going to be talking to us about her Zazzle Story. Her journey through Zazzle and being with us within our courses and within our community.
But before we dive right in, let us introduce ourselves in case this is your first visit. Welcome to The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast. We’re your hosts, Jen and Elke Clarke. We are a mother and daughter team that started Zazzle e-commerce businesses over 10 years ago and have sold over 15 million dollars worth and counting on products on Zazzle.
The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast is for you, the creative. We share actionable steps that you can take to make money in your e-commerce business. In each episode, we will take you one step closer to achieving freedom with your time, location, and finances.
We believe that a profitable e-commerce business is what opens the doors for you to start living your dream life if you work smarter, not harder, use the right tools and follow the proven roadmap. We’re here to give you the tools you need to make your dream life happen. Let’s get started!
Elke: So, basically, you started over and you began creating a new job through a seven-figure online Zazzle business. Pretty impressive. We want to hear more about your Zazzle story of creating a new job and the evolution of how you got to the Zazzle platform, and then we’re going to ask you to give our listeners a tip based on your journey.
But the main thing we want our listeners to hear is the success that you’ve had creating a new job and the things that you’ve overcome, which is so important and so valuable because you’re running a business, and you’re no stranger to businesses.
Wendy: Yeah, so, a little bit about me. I am married. I have two grown daughters, and I actually started creating a new job myself with my own in-home direct sales business when my youngest went to kindergarten, so for twenty years I worked for myself. But the parent company closed down, and overnight I lost what I thought was going to be my forever job. I took several years trying to figure out what to do next. At fifty-some years old, where do you start over?
I just happened to have downtime, so I was helping an artist friend trying to sell their art, and someone had told them about Zazzle. Now, my friend is not computer-literate; they’re an artist. I’m not considered computer-literate, either, as the two ladies know.
But I thought I would sit down and try to figure it out so I could help my friend, because I had time. I started playing around and learning how to design on Zazzle, and I enjoyed it. My friend did not and never stuck with creating a new job for themselves that way, but within a few months, an address label sold. A couple days later, a few other things sold. After a week, I had eleven dollars in sales, and I thought, “Boy, maybe there’s something to this.”
I knew nothing about graphic design and nothing about eCommerce and creating a new job through that avenue; I’d never even heard the word eCommerce. But what I had learned from creating a new job through my home business was that you don’t need to figure it out on your own. If you can be mentored, why start over? Why reinvent the wheel?
I figured if nothing else, I’d just have fun while I was looking and working on potentially creating a new job. So I was Google-searching some mentoring and guidance on Zazzle, watching some YouTube videos, and I came across Elke’s very first mentoring program promo video. To be honest, I had just recently gotten scammed over something else with that in my quest to start creating a new job, so I was very wary. Here was an unknown program by someone I didn’t know in a company I hadn’t heard of up until two or three weeks before, so it took me a long time to jump off the fence and say, “If I’m going to see if there’s something to this, I’ve got to be mentored by the best.”
At that time, and probably still, you guys are the best. So, I jumped in with both feet, and I’ve been with these ladies for about five years now. So just about every program that they have offered, I have participated in while creating a new job through Zazzle, because I’ve had a lot to learn.
You struggled along with me when I got overwhelmed or was just completely lost in the computer-literate world. So over the last five years with surgeries and, you know, family crises and stuff, I still managed to work on creating a new job and building this shop to where it is today. And I know that wouldn’t have happened on my own. I know that hands-down. So, these ladies—the community that they’ve built, the programs that they offer, their responses to what you’re dealing with—are very sincere. It’s made all of the difference in the world for creating a new job through my business, and it’s now my new forever job.
Jen: The fact that you were dedicated to actually learning about creating a new job through Zazzle and decided, “Hey, I need to have a mentor and I need to learn from the best to become the better version of myself within this business,” that is really admirable as well. Hopefully that will resonate with people, because we can only do so much on our own.
Elke: You did have a lot of business experience, but you’re also a great example of someone who had other challenges in terms of learning certain pieces of the Zazzle business. You knew what to make and you had the drive for creating a new job for yourself, you just had some challenges with the tech, that’s it.
Once we got you over that, you were off to the races. You’ve come a long way in that regard, and that’s the important part, is to not let the things that are your weakest links get you down.
Just think of it as, that’s the only thing you need to fix. I think that’s super important for anyone who’s out there and thinking, “Well, I’d love to be on this platform, but I’m not creative.” or “I’d love to be on this platform, but I don’t know how to run my own online business.” or “I’d love to be on this platform, but I’m not tech-savvy.” You don’t have to be.
Elke: So we have one question for you. What’s a tip that you can give our listeners who might be worried over whether or not they can accomplish this themselves?
Wendy: I was big on feeling guilty if I didn’t put in twelve-hour days when I was trying to work through creating a new job at the beginning, even though you guys kept trying to tell me to quit doing that. But that’s my workaholic side, and not everyone has a workaholic problem like I do.
Still, the one thing I learned years and years ago in the business I had before is to just do something, no matter what it is, to drive your business forward every day. That can simply be to go and look at Zazzle’s front page today, design a product today, read an article, listen to a podcast, anything that keeps your business in front of you every day.
That’s a great tip. Thank you so much, Wendy, for joining us today and sharing your experience with us. Your numbers are spectacular, and we just can’t wait to be with you on your Zazzle journey going forward and see you progress.
