And today, we will discuss actions you can take to develop a CEO mindset. For all the details, listen to the ENTIRE episode of The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast on your preferred streaming platform.
You are 100% responsible for the actions you take AND what happens in your business.
This is a tough pill to swallow. When something goes wrong in our business, it’s natural for us to want to deflect responsibility and blame anyone other than ourselves.
We often see people blame Zazzle for their problems. Maybe the site is having issues, or Zazzle has come out with changes. But you have to realize that Zazzle is not the problem. You are the one in control of what happens in your business.
You choose how you react and adapt to situations. So you have to stop blaming outside circumstances and look inside– at yourself.
Once you realize that you are the only one who can change your outcome with actions or attitude, the blame game stops and you move into the CEO mindset.
If you ask any successful person how they knew what to do to get to where they are, they will most likely tell you that they didn’t know. They just kept taking massive action until they got there.
Don’t confuse massive action with just doing your best. Many times we try something once and think that we gave it our best shot and it’s good enough.
But that’s not enough. Thomas Edison didn’t invent the lightbulb on his first try. He created over 1,000 designs before it worked. He kept taking repetitive actions until it finally worked.
Taking massive action means trying various options, doing everything you can think of and even more of what you can’t think of. It’s not giving up until you get what you want.
It’s not throwing spaghetti at the walls and seeing what sticks either. It’s still intentional, not random. You can use coaches and mentors to help guide you on which massive actions to take so you can achieve the most favorable outcomes.
Things will inevitably go wrong in your business. But you determine how you respond.
You can either see problems as barriers, impossible to move through, or as obstacles, something you can overcome. Having a CEO mindset means you see problems as obstacles.
For example, if Zazzle is having sitewide issues, you could complain or choose not to do any work that day. Or you could find a way to still be productive. You could promote your products on Pinterest. Or you could spend your time working on new designs.
You always have options for how you respond to challenges. True success is measured by how often you can break through barriers and quickly you can overcome obstacles.
If you’re stuck in negative thoughts, you’ll also be stuck in inaction. Dwelling on the negative external factors is only a distraction and a way to stay in your comfort zone so that you don’t have to take massive action.
When you move into a positive state of mind, you’ll have more energy, be more efficient, and feel inspired to take the right next step. When something negative happens, having a CEO mindset means you acknowledge it and then reframe it in a positive light as quickly as you can. This is the fastest way to be more productive and attract more positive energy.
The law of attraction means that positive or negative thoughts attract positive or negative experiences in your life. Whether you believe that or not, your thoughts do affect how you experience life. This affects all parts of your life, including running your business.
Because your thoughts affect your reality, it’s important to run your business from a place of joy and playfulness. It might sound strange to mix joy and playfulness with business at first, but it makes sense, especially for creatives.
If you make money being creative, your best products will come from a place of joy, connectedness, and love. I know that my best-selling designs were created when I was playing and having fun with it. The designs I created when I was fearful and desperate just aren’t as good.
Tapping into a joyful state will unlock your creativity and your best work. And that will ultimately make you more money!
It’s been said that you become the average of the six people closest to you. So if you want to become a successful Zazzle designer, it makes sense that you need to get close to someone who has done what you want to do, right?
Wherever you want to go in life, you need to have both coaches and mentors who can help get you there. Coaches are people who can guide you and show you actions to take, and mentors are people who have achieved what you want to achieve that you can look up to.
There weren’t Zazzle coaches and mentors available when Jen and I were starting our Zazzle businesses. But we invested in other business coaches and mentors. We learned all we can from others so we could better determine which actions to take.
Jen and I would love to coach and mentor you and be a part of your journey. We created The Creative CEO Mastermind™ for business owners like you who want to level up and become the badass CEO they were meant to be. If you want continued in-depth work to overcome blocks and step fully into the CEO mindset, this program would be a great fit for you.
