But before we dive right in, let us introduce ourselves in case this is your first visit. Welcome to The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast. We’re your hosts, Jen and Elke Clarke. We are a mother and daughter team that started Zazzle e-commerce businesses over 10 years ago and have sold over 15 million dollars worth and counting of products on Zazzle.
The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast is for you, the creative. We share actionable steps that you can take to make money in your e-commerce business. In each episode, we will take you one step closer to achieving freedom with your time, location, and finances.
We believe that a profitable e-commerce business is what opens the doors for you to start living your dream life if you work smarter, not harder, use the right tools and follow the proven roadmap. We’re here to give you the tools you need to make your dream life happen. Let’s get started!
The amazing thing about starting an online business is that it allows you to choose what’s right for you because there are many options out there. Everyone’s situation is different and everyone is motivated by different things that lead to the yearn to start an online business.
I tried starting a lot of different businesses when I decided to quit my day job. And now that I’ve found something that works for providing me with my dream life, I developed this framework to help others find the same success. You’re worthy of the choice of how you want to have an online business that works for you.
So join me in learning about the Perceivable, Passive, Profitable™ framework to assess the business that’s right for you. This foundational framework will make a huge difference in your business journey. I’ll go through each part of it individually below to give you a holistic view of how to apply it to your own business.
Perceivable means that the business has to be something you believe to be possible. If you can’t answer this piece of it, there’s no point in assessing further. You must believe in your business!
You also have to love the business that you’re going to start and it has to allow for your dream life. Let’s expand more on this one. That dream life is what we’re all chasing. But have you defined what this means to you? It could pertain to income, time, or any other factors.
This isn’t just an emotional feeling, but you really need to gain an understanding of whether or not the business you’re starting will continue being exciting to you in the long run.
It should also provide a solid foundation that you can grow and scale in, and it should have long-term stability. In addition, your business should provide long-term income.
Once you evaluate this, you’ll understand whether you have a perceivable business. From here, you can look for social proof that supports this dream happening rather than just looking at your past experiences.
Online businesses are, by nature, Passive. They’re done remotely. The question is, what quality of passive do you want? In this step, assess the business you’re looking into and what it will entail. You want your business to work for you.
So at this point, you should ask yourself if you can make substantial income without working. You also need to ask if there are structures in place that work for you. For instance, with a platform like Shopify, you need to go in and create everything. That’s not exactly passive.
On the other hand, Zazzle handles everything for you. It’s a lot less of a ramp-up time. That means that this business will be more passive and take less time each month in order to create your business, get results, and generate income.
You should also ask if your business will remain passive even if you scale to your dream life earnings and achievements. Also, think through having a passive product suite. You want to have products that are evergreen. These products will sell consistently every month year after year, unlike seasonal items that sell only during certain times of year (for the most part).
Generating a product suite that does that allows you the ability to successfully scale. You can slowly add to your inventory, adding to your earnings over time. This expansive suite that you build also allows you to continue working in a passive manner.
The last pillar of this framework is Profitable. You will want to examine specifically what you will take home from the business you’re looking to start. You will have to look at what your hourly rate will be for this business in order to understand if the model you set up is effective.
The way that Zazzle works, simply put, is that you receive a royalty from what you sell. So say you set your royalty at 10%. Zazzle will get the 90% as a payment for helping run your business. If you sell $1million in products on Zazzle, you’d make $100K in earnings.
What makes using Zazzle, which is basically a done for you business, profitable is that there is very little that you need to invest into your business to get started and to maintain it, So when you only make 10%, as in this example, it may seem low but you get to keep on average about 90% of this payout in a relatively passive business model.
You should also think about whether you can receive your dream income. While you may need to be flexible to make that happen on a site like Zazzle, it’s definitely possible. But you need to understand if what works on Zazzle will be something you can deliver and is aligned with what you want for you and what you want for your business.
You need a profitable business model in order to make your business work. The skills you need to run a business can be taught. But the business model has to get you what you want.
Use this framework as a jumping-off point to start your online business. You need to put the effort, time, and thought into setting up your online business correctly. This is the beginning of that, so really zero in on these questions and prompts in order to get a solid idea of whether Zazzle or any kind of online business is the right choice for you, your life, and your ambitions.
