In this post, I (Elke) outline the three things you need to learn in order to sell products online and have success on Zazzle. As time has passed and the platform has evolved, I have sadly realized that the Zazzle training and Zazzle forum are not always the best places to receive help and advice to get the results you want.
In fact, many people on the platform might tell you that it is incredibly difficult to sell products online and rare to make money from your Zazzle storefront. However, Jen and I are here to debunk that myth.
Our clients have made over $6 million in sales so far, which in itself goes to show that making money on Zazzle is possible under certain circumstances. And while we cannot guarantee the income you will earn through selling on Zazzle, we have discovered through our years of experience which skills and practices have been more successful than others on this platform.
But before we dive right in, let us introduce ourselves in case this is your first visit. Welcome to The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast. We’re your hosts, Jen and Elke Clarke. We are a mother and daughter team that started Zazzle e-commerce businesses over 10 years ago and have sold over 15 million dollars-worth and counting of products on Zazzle.
The Creative and Ambitious Entrepreneur Podcast is for you, the creative. We share actionable steps that you can take to make money in your e-commerce business. In each episode, we will take you one step closer to achieving freedom with your time, location, and finances.
We believe that a profitable e-commerce business is what opens the doors for you to start living your dream life if you work smarter, not harder, use the right tools and follow the proven roadmap. We’re here to give you the tools you need to make your dream life happen. Let’s get started!
Before I get into the skills you need to develop to be successful on Zazzle, I want to share why it’s so important to take the time to set up your store properly. If you invest the time and effort into this, you will be able to avoid the perpetual feeling of having to catch up and fix things as you evolve on the platform.
There are several ways that you can get help setting up your storefront correctly when you start to sell products online on Zazzle. First, you can sign up for our courses and coaching. Another option, if you aren’t quite ready to spend money to have this done, is to do what you’re doing right now: read our blog posts, podcast show notes, watch our videos on YouTube or listen to podcasts on each topic. Another great option is to join our free and private Facebook group for Zazzle sellers.
The first skill to master in your Zazzle journey is to avoid overwhelm by specializing in one niche first. To do this, focus on delivering intentional products within that one niche that you have researched and created designs that will serve that customer.
Once you start selling in that niche, you can use the same design and modify it to serve customers in a different niche. For example a business card design could be used on a product for school or in the motivational niche.
This allows you to scale easily and efficiently, in a way that doesn’t require extra work or force you to start from scratch with every product. Plus, this is an amazing way to gain momentum in sales by zeroing in on a niche, which will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or ready to throw in the towel on your Zazzle business.
One of the amazing benefits of selling on Zazzle is the Zazzle design tool. It is like Photoshop, but free for Zazzle sellers! Zazzle is all about customization and uniqueness, and this tool facilitates that.
It allows you to create designs and templates that the customer can use and create their own design using your initial design template. This provides additional revenue for you while the customer is creating their own version from your base product design.
I say it all the time, and it’s true: the sky’s the limit when it comes to Zazzle! Being able to use the design tool effectively allows you to harness that potential and make the most out of the platform. So it is a very important skill to develop.
Being skilled at promotion and search engine optimization (SEO) is a very important part of being a successful Zazzle seller, and it’s something you will want to continuously improve upon.
If you keep in mind that each product page on Zazzle is a web page and needs to be set up properly to come up in online searches then you will achieve much greater success on the platform if you set it up correctly.
Getting good at this comes with a good mentor that can advise you and practice while receiving feedback. I highly recommend that you get help from a mentor or coach who is skilled and achieved success with SEO and how to use it successfully to make sales on Zazzle.
Also, be open to the fact that the SEO rules are always changing. Keywords that people use to look up things change, and the methods of promotion evolve. It is important to keep up with SEO changes to ensure that your products continue to come up in search results. For this, having a trusted resource, practice, and trial and error are the keys to success.
As I discussed above, setting yourself up for success on Zazzle is so important for the overall evolution of your business. Doing things correctly from the start is the best method of gaining momentum quickly and figuring out what works on the platform.
I hope that this post has taught you what it takes to be a successful Zazzle seller from the beginning, and that you leave feeling inspired to enlist the help of someone with experience on the platform to help you get off to a great start.
