How to Overcome Fear of Starting an Online Business, Fear #1: Fear of competition and not being able to compete with what’s already on the Zazzle platform.

Some Zazzle designers believe it’s not possible to hit higher income levels such as $100,000 a year. They see making money around $100 or even a couple thousand as easy, but hundreds of thousands seem unattainable. This is one of the biggest mindset shifts you have to make. Believe it is possible and those sales to get you there are possible for your Zazzle business. It’s possible because we’ve done it. What’s important here is to understand that we’ve been in your shoes, when we first started, we made $90 in our first year.

Elke made $2,300 in her second year. She thought that was a lot of money for what she was able to do on Zazzle at that time. With that in mind, it stopped Elke from thinking she could make more, she wanted to make more but she couldn’t imagine it happening and that she should just be satisfied with her current earnings. Once she realized that she shouldn’t set the bar so low for herself, she aimed for making 5 figures. That was only a partial mindset shift, she was only aiming to earn anywhere from $10,000 to $99,999. She went on to make $37,000 in her third year. $50,000 was earned the year after that, and then eventually $67,000 the year after. Each year she got higher, and always thought it was a lot of money. She needed to take those steps gradually because she didn’t believe in herself enough.. Elke’s mind was still not aligned with the possibility that $100,000 a year was possible on Zazzle for her, even though that is how much she  wanted to earn..

It wasn’t until her sixth year on Zazzle that she hit the 6 figure mark. That is when she finally realized it was possible. Our hope for you is that when you listen to this episode, you don’t let it take that long. Understand you can do it much quicker if you just do the mindset work now rather than six years down the road. Jen had the same mindset problem and had to make the shift. To this day, our Zazzle students and many designers put a cap on their earnings just because it seems like a lot. We can’t make income claim statements but it is doable because we have done it and our students have done it as well.

It’s important to implement EACH ONE of The 5 Strategies that we teach in The Profit By Design Academy™ in order to reach the 6 figure mark. We had Strategies #1, 2, 3, and 5 implemented well, but it wasn’t until we implemented Strategy #4 (alignment of our goals and mindset) that we saw 6 figure results. Ask yourself, how can you make the shift to say it’s possible? We hope our story resonates with you, and lets you know it’s possible for you too.

Engage, LEARN, IMPLEMENT

How to Overcome Fear of Starting an Online Business, Fear #2: You are fearful that what you have to offer may not be good enough for people to want to purchase.

You  could be in the mindset that you think you aren’t good enough. You feel that your designs are not like the ones on the Zazzle homepage or trending products so your designs won’t sell. Yes, the products on the homepage are what Zazzle is promoting. The bestsellers obviously sell, but you don’t have to offer those specific products or designs in those niches in order to get sales. If you are on the Zazzle marketplace and you see very specific trending designs and it’s not your thing, that doesn’t mean your designs aren’t good enough to be sold. This just means your designs aren’t on the homepage. So many things go on in the back end and purchases are being made that you don’t know about. On the Zazzle homepage, there’s only room for about 40 to 50 products to be displayed. Keep in mind there are hundreds of thousands of products being sold on Zazzle.

Jen sells designs she made many years ago that she didn’t think were attractive or appealing, but those products still sell. When Jen first started out, some of her designs weren’t up to the standards she has now, but that doesn’t mean people won’t purchase or like these older designs. Take a step back and understand there are so many possibilities for customers to buy your products. There are so many niche and specific buyers out there, and if you offer what they’re looking for, that’s where the magic and sales happen.

For example, we have a lot of students in very specific niches such as crocheting, knitting, martial arts, things you would never see on the Zazzle homepage. However, they still get sales and do well because they deliver what their target market wants. Take away the incorrect assumption and then you take away the fear.

How to Overcome Fear of Starting an Online Business

How to Overcome Fear of Starting an Online Business, Fear #3: You are fearful that you are too late to the Zazzle platform and won’t find success.

If you find yourself thinking there’s no more room on Zazzle and it’s too late to get started, that is complete BS. We are both still active designers on Zazzle and make lots of money each month. There are Zazzle designers who just started out recently and are experiencing success. People starting now are just as successful, if not more successful than when we both started.

When we started, there were fewer products to sell, the platform was not as user friendly, e-commerce wasn’t as popular. At this time, even with uncertain times, online sales are booming. If anything, now is the best time in the history of Zazzle to become a Zazzle designer, you have the most opportunities and best possibility to achieve success.

How to Overcome Fear of Starting an Online Business, Fear #4: When you fear it’s not possible to make the money you want to make on Zazzle.

This fear is a mindset money block. You have to make a shift in how you think and be open to the possibility that you can make the amounts of money that you want on Zazzle. First of all, Zazzle is a very well known international company that does a lot of external marketing. IfZazzle doesn’t sell, they don’t make money. Zazzle wants you to succeed so they will succeed. If you don’t sell, you don’t make money, but Zazzle also doesn’t make money. Zazzle is working hard to make sure as many  customers as possible come onto Zazzle to shop and that their website is user friendly so that they will buy. If you provide a customer with a type of product or service that they want to buy, you personally bring something unique to your business on Zazzle. Focus on creating that uniqueness and serving to the customer. This is what will bring in sales.

Jen and I have been paid out over 1.5 million dollars from Zazzle. If we would have feared that it was not possible, we would not have given it a chance. The way it becomes possible is for you to understand that products that sell year after year begin to generate more and more money for you while you don’t do any more work. Some of our designs that we made many years ago still sell today. It is possible to make sales passively long-term on Zazzle. When we created these products 10 to 13 years ago, we never imagined it was possible, but it is. Your Zazzle business is a money making option that can continue to grow over many years with unlimited sales opportunities. Through the examples of others who achieve their earnings goals on Zazzle, you can begin to dispel your fear that it’s not possible to make significant money on Zazzle.

How to Overcome Fear of Starting an Online Business on Zazzle: The Key Takeaways

Would your fears be less “real” if you had other information to help you get a broader perspective of Zazzle and what others have accomplished?
