Do you know why it’s important to define your values? Your values are the moral code that you use to make decisions on how you act in all aspects of your life, including business. It’s time to take stock of what your values are. Now is the perfect time to decide if your actions align with your values. This reflection allows you to make a conscious decision to continue adhering to these values or if you want to replace them with new ones. When you set your values and commit to actions that are in line with your values, you are personally happier. You are clearer on your path to success. Then you can make decisions with ease and confidence in your personal life and your business. In this article, I will take you through an exercise to help you define your values to increase your success.
Define Your Values
Your values are core beliefs, that affect your mindset and actions. But sometimes you do things that don’t align with what you think are your values. In that case, your value is not actually a TRUE value that you have. You only think it is or wants it to be.
It is at this point, that you have the ability to consciously make the decision to follow certain values or not. If for example
Are you committed to creating your best year ever and jump-starting your personal and financial life for 2020?
It all starts with what you are currently doing RIGHT NOW. So let’s work on defining your values together here in this article.
Defining Our Values Helped With Our Zazzle Business Success
My daughter, Jen Clarke, and I, Elke Clarke, have been successful on an online Print On Demand E-Commerce site, called Zazzle. It’s a shopping site for customers. But Zazzle is a place where creatives, like Jen and I, can make money by licensing our art, photography, and graphic designs to be added to products that Zazzle sells. Unlike other licensing opportunities, Zazzle gives creatives 100% freedom to decide what gets added to the products and what is posted for sale.
Together, the 2 of us have sold over 12 million dollars worth of Zazzle merchandise and have earned over 1.2 million dollars. When we first started on Zazzle we were new to running our own online business. We needed to do a great many things to improve ourselves before we saw success.
As an online entrepreneur, you too need to take care of yourself and ensure you are making decisions based on the core values that mean the most to you. You are your own most valuable asset and decision-maker. The values that you use to make these business decisions and also your life decisions
What Are Examples of Values?
There are many values, but let’s make it easy for you by giving you a few examples. You can then define your own.
Examples of values:
- kindness
- well-being
- make a difference
- abundance
- happiness
Define Your Values
Now it’s time for you to do an exercise:
- List about 20+ values that come to your mind quickly and easily without too much thought.
- Review your list and narrow it down to 5 values that mean the most to you.
- Take those 5 and add a verb and/or phrase to give your values more meaning. (See below)
- Write the 5 statements out in a beautiful way (Click here to use the Zazzle Create Tool to make a cool image). For example, my image is below.
- Print it out or save it as a screensaver or post it on Instagram, so that you can be reminded daily of your core values.
For example:
MY 5 CORE VALUES
- Promote kindness.
- Act with mindfulness.
- Choose well-being.
- Expect abundance.
- Seek happiness.
