Self care is extremely important to be a successful entrepreneur. An online entrepreneurs must realize how vital they are to the success of their business. They are the business’s most important asset. When mental and physical health is not optimal, they run the risk of hindering their business’ success. This is why it is so important. Online entrepreneurs need to take care of themselves in order to make executive business decisions for the future success of their businesses. I, Jen Clarke, and my mother, Elke Clarke, have been in the online space for 13 years. While running our million-dollar Zazzle businesses, we have learned how important it is to have self care as part of our business must-haves. During these uncertain times, online entrepreneurs need to focus on self care more than ever. In this article, we will explain how doing 4 things daily can help get you in the daily habit of effective self care for your online business.
Make Self Care a Priority as An Online Entrepreneur
Online entrepreneurs are notorious for working on the computer for hours and not realizing how much time has passed by. As online entrepreneurs, Elke and I find ourselves, totally engrossed and focused on our computer work, only to realize that hours have gone by. It happens to everyone! The beauty of being an online entrepreneur is that you can set your own hours and work whenever you want. However, to avoid burnout and avoid negatively affecting your business, self care is a must. You are your company’s biggest asset, so make sure you protect yourself by doing what you need to be your best every day. When you can’t work, your business doesn’t function properly.
The Importance of Self Care During Uncertain Times
Good mental and physical health is key if you want to succeed in your online business. Most online entrepreneurs will agree that when they are healthy and have a positive mindset, their business flourishes. COVID-19 has created a situation in which many people are experiencing financial difficulties, and physical and mental stress and their normal routine has been disrupted.
There have been reports in the news of a spike in the number of people suffering from depression. People have found it hard to focus on their own self care because they have taken on even more responsibilities than before.
In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever for people to recognize that they need to take care of themselves.
Four Easy Self Care Things You Can Add to Your Daily Routine
- Journal every morning to start the day.
- Exercise for 30 minutes a day.
- Refuel and re-energize by doing something enjoyable that is not work-related.
- Have a proper sleep routine and get 7-8 hours of sleep.
Journal Daily – Self Care
Journal every morning to start the day. We list 15 gratitudes, 5 things we are grateful for from the past, 5 about the present, and 5 about the future.
You can also list all that you are grateful for in the present tense, even if it has not yet happened.
Exercise Daily – Self Care
Exercise for 30 minutes a day.
Yoga, walking, gardening, or some form of more strenuous exercise are all great.
Listen to your body and do what works for you as long as you get up from your computer and move for 30 minutes a day.
Refuel and Charge – Self Care
Refuel and re-energize by doing something enjoyable that is not work-related.
By focusing on something else besides work, your brain gets a chance to rest.
Have you ever been in the shower and thought of a great idea? Or been out with friends chatting and then in the middle of the conversation you remember something about work. These situations happen because your brain needs a break from always focusing on one thing, in this case, work.
Get Your Rest – Self Care
Have a proper sleep routine and get a restful 7-8 hours of sleep.
During these uncertain times, people often find themselves falling into irregular sleeping patterns because routines have changed.
To maintain a normal sleep pattern and get restful sleep, stick to a wind-down routine at the end of the day. About an hour before bed, turn off any electronics and do something that relaxes your mind.
Read a book, have a bath, pick something, or do a series of things that you do daily to signal to your body that it’s time to sleep.
Self Care In Uncertain Times
For some reason, self care things are hard for most people to add and keep in their daily routine. Most people tend to look after others more than they do themselves. It is extremely important to keep a self care routine to keep healthy both mentally and physically as an online entrepreneur. It’s crucial during uncertain times when there is added stress from external factors. During these tough months of COVID-19, most people are finding themselves struggling to keep to their routine because their lives have been completely changed from what they are used to.
Make a Schedule Or Tell a Friend
Mark any “me time” self care activities right into your calendar and keep the dates and times just like you would appointments. Involve a family member or friend in your self care activities like exercising or re-charging. This will keep you accountable. It will be fun and you will look forward to it.
Inspiration to Work on Mindset and Perception
People commonly think that the reason their business isn’t working is due to an external reason. But 99% of the time it’s when people focus on self care and do mindset work with a coach, that they will achieve success in their business and life.
