“Many designers think that they need to have 1,000s of products in their store to make money but that’s not true.“
We always recommend that you work smarter and not harder. Instead of putting up random products without thinking what customer you are targeting, nail your niche. Then you will be able to strategically create designs on product types that your customer actually wants to buy. If you need help with finding your niche click here for our free downloadable worksheet that guides you through the process.
You can’t sell on the Zazzle marketplace if you don’t open up a Zazzle store under your account. Before you open your store decide on a name. Need help? Use a name generator site like Anadea. Then do research on TESS to ensure that your store name is not protected under copyright and on Google as a general search to see if other companies are already using the name. If so, choose another name. Your store name could end up being your world wide brand, so start off right by choosing a unique name that suits your niche.
It’s time to open your Zazzle store. Start an account. Click on “create your first store”. Use the name you researched and follow the steps to set up your Zazzle store. You can use the Zazzle Create Tool (which is different from the Zazzle Design Tool) or Canva to design a store banner, store logo and store category images to complete your Zazzle store homepage.
Check out the Zazzle marketplace to see what Zazzle is promoting on their homepage to get a sense of what’s selling. You can also scroll to the bottom of the Zazzle homepage on Zazzle.com to a section labelled “Trending” (see image below). These are top sellers trending at that moment. You can click on the “See All Trending” to find out even more of the top sellers. The key is to respect copyright in order to be successful. Bring unique designs to the Zazzle marketplace in order to be successful long-term and not have your products removed, banned from Zazzle or worse sued. You can learn about the popular niches, products and concepts, but it is illegal to copy someone else’s design.

Now you are ready to create your designs, either in a graphics program, or upload your artwork or photography. You can also create amazing designs directly on the Zazzle Design Tool. Many designers think that they need to have 1,000s of products in their store to make money but that’s not true. Instead, learn from Zazzle experts a strategic product production strategy, like the one we teach in our signature course, The Profit by Design Academy™. The goal is to sell the same products year after year, not just for a short time because of the latest trend or fad.
Use store categories to sort your products in your store so that your customer can easily find them and you can keep track of your inventory. Unlike a collection, a product can only go into one store category.
Add your products to collections in order to group items together that helps the customer make a buying decision. For example, create a collection with monogram cell phone cases or another collection that contains all the items needed for a wedding invitation suite. The same product can go into multiple collections. Even though you can add up to 300 items into one collection, we recommend that you limit the number to about 100.
The best place online to promote your Zazzle products is on Pinterest because it is a search engine. We like Pinterest because pins that we pinned even years ago are still being searched today on Pinterest and receive click throughs to our Zazzle products. The best part is that we receive 35% referral payouts if we promote and sell our own products because we are part of the Promoter Program 2.0 on Zazzle. Read this article for more information. Our Zazzle Pinterest Intensive course teaches you how to use Pinterest to get these referrals so that you can earn the royalty from your product sale and also an additional 35%.
Zazzle is not a get rich quick rich quick scheme. It takes time to become good at understanding what the customer wants and delivering designs on products that will entice a customer to buy.
Personally we made less than 90 dollars in our first year 14 years ago. Obviously times have changed and now we make thousands of dollars a month. Some of our students have made $5,000, $10,000 and even $20,000 a month just in the last few months in 2020. They struggled on their own on Zazzle and only started making more sales once they became a student of ours. It took them about a year or two to reach the bigger numbers.
