5 Strategies for a Successful ecommerce business

“These actions are all important whether you are starting, scaling and maintaining your Zazzle business. “

A Successful eCommerce Online Business Must Use The 5 Strategies

If you want to build a successful eCommerce online business, it  must be built on a solid foundation. You must establish the base on which your business can be supported and grow. After it is set up properly, your business must generate revenue through sales of products that you create. To announce to the world that your products are for sale you must have systems and strategies in place to reach your target customers. As the solo entrepreneur you must align your goals and mindset to maximize your potential for success. Finally, if you do not analyze what is happening in your business, you will not see the potential for growth and be able to act on it.

What I believe to be true is that using all of my 5 Strategies; Establish, Create, Announce, Align and Analyze™ properly you can get more of what you dream of and transform your life. That is what happened to me and my daughter, Jen Clarke. It is also happening for students of ours.  In this article, I will teach you what my 5 strategies involve, so that you can start and scale a successful eCommerce online business that works for you.

Why Use My 5 Strategies; Establish, Create, Announce, Align and Analyze™?

Strategies for a successful ecommerce business

In 2008, I started on Zazzle and I thought, now I am going to make a lot of money really fast. Boy was I wrong. I was mortified after making only $90 in my first year on Zazzle.

Zazzle
fit my Perceivable Passive Profitable™ Framework for a successful online business idea. I knew it was the right business model for me. But why was I not making more money?

After struggling and many failures, I realized that I was not treating my business as a business.

I wanted it to be a successful business so badly, but I didn’t have:

  •  a brand
  • properly set up business
  • any plan on what products to make or sell
  • a clue on how to promote my products effectively
  • realistic earnings goals
  • a positive mindset
  • any routine to review what was happening in my business
  • strategies to follow that were proven to work on Zazzle

Through trial and error, I figured out how to make Zazzle work for my business. That’s how I came up with my 5 Strategies; Establish, Create, Announce, Align and Analyze™ and built, grew and now maintain my multimillion dollar ecommerce online business.

Zazzle is a Great Online Business

I found an eCommerce online business that I absolutely LOVE, where I can be creative AND make a ton of bank (Can anyone say a million?). That only happened AFTER I used my 5 Strategies. It also gave me SO MUCH TIME to be there for my kids, making memories and building strong bonds. #HAVEITALL #$BOSSBABE #SUPERMOM

Now I teach my 5 Strategies; Establish, Create, Announce, Align and Analyze™ in my signature course, The Profit by Design Academy™.

I recommend they work 5 hours a week and use my 5 strategies.

What I love is that so many of my students are #CRUSHINGIT on Zazzle now that they are using my 5 Strategies. They are scaling their businesses so that they can get more of what they dream of.

Establish Your Online Business – Strategy #1

OK, be honest. You tried to make Zazzle work for you on your own. It looks so easy. Just make some products and a week later you should be selling tons, right? Even if you are not on Zazzle yet, you probably think this should be easy. But it’s not easy.

In 2008, I thought the same way at first. Then when that didn’t work, I worked harder and put in long hours. But I only made $90 in my first year!! What??!!! That’s a long time to struggle with no payback.

But I kept seeing others on Zazzle MAKE MONEY.

I asked myself; “Why did it not work for me?” You must ask yourself that question too.

So I did a REALITY CHECK. Why would I expect a business to work online if I have not even set it up properly? I had to establish my business, by creating a professional brand, online store, and messaging. This would give the customer the confidence to buy my products in good times and bad?

Create Products That Sell – Strategy #2

Successful ecommerce business Strategies

I work 4 hours a week maintaining my 6-figure online business, year after year. That’s because I follow my proven strategy for posting products that sell. My strategy includes improving my design skills, doing research on what’s popular in my niches, and creating an inventory of products that will sell month after month, year after year.

These actions are all important whether you are starting, scaling and maintaining your Zazzle business.

In the Profit by Design Academy™, I take the guesswork out of creating products that sell with Elke’s Monthly Production Strategy™ which is a roadmap for what products to make each month.

Announce Your Store and Products – Strategy #3

You can make thousands of products with the best designs on them but, if customers can’t find them, you will not make a single sale.

The ways customers find your products is through keyword searches and active promotion on social media and websites.

When I first started, I was terrible at labelling my products properly so that customers could find them in searches. I will admit that it was not easy to figure out titles and tags because it’s just like SEO for websites and changes all the time.

That’s why we spend a lot of time helping you get the skills you need to be good at titles and tags in my signature course, The Profit by Design Academy™.

I was also never good at promoting on social media and I hate being “salesy”. So how did I sell  so well? I figured out organic ways to promote and create customer demand and loyalty. If this sounds confusing to you, it’s OK. I cover this in my course, as well, so you can #CRUSHIT

Align Your Goals and Mindset – Strategy #4

successful ecommerce business

When I first started on Zazzle, my goal was to make 1 million dollars. It was an awesome goal. What made it a problem was that in my mind it was supposed to happen in a short timeframe. It was also an incredibly big goal, so at some points in my business journey, I also got disheartened and thought I would never achieve my goal.

This yoyoing back and forth between “ I will do it” and “I can’t” was happening because I did not align my earnings goals, my mindset and my productivity.

As an entrepreneur, you play all roles in your business. That means you have to take care of your state of mind above all else. It will affect your productivity and all the decisions you make.

Support from a coach and like-minded entrepreneurs is also important. To avoid being all alone in your entrepreneurial journey, our course has a private, safe and positive Facebook group for community support.

Analyze Your Results and Take Action – Strategy #5

You can’t tell if you are doing well unless you measure your results, look at them and compare them to your goals. When I first started, it was all about the payout from Zazzle. Depending on what I got paid every month, I would think I was successful or not.

As I became a better business owner, I realized I need to track my progress in more ways so I could see trends and take action. If there were things that I was doing, but they did not result in sales, I needed to stop doing them. The same goes for if something worked and resulted in sales, I was then able to take actions to increase my sales. If I did not analyze the results of my business, I would never be able to know what worked and increase my sales.

You may be thinking, I hate math and numbers. This analysis stuff is not for me. That’s where you are wrong. My students are so happy when I show them how they can easily do these analysis without a lot of math. A successful business owner knows her/his numbers of their business, even if they are bad at math. That means you can do this too. We are always here to help make it easy for you as a student of The Profit by Academy™.

There was a time when I, Elke Clarke, was frustrated because I was not making sales on Zazzle. In fact, I only made $90 in my first year! ☹️

I experienced waves of overwhelm not knowing what to do to increase my sales in my Zazzle store. I just kept working harder and posting more products for sale. (Trust me, this does not work. ☹️)

I used to stare at my computer screen for hours not getting anything done. I was paralyzed by anxiety (Was I any good?) and FOMO (fear of missing out) because other products on Zazzle “seemed” to be selling while mine were not. ☹️

Then one day I said “NO MORE!”

I realized I could compete and sell well on Zazzle if I:

  • improved my designs
  • set up my store categories properly
  • used collections to multiply my income
  • got REALLY GOOD at Titles and Tags so my products would be seen so I would SELL like CRAZY!

And so I and my daughter, Jen, improved our skills and started selling really well on Zazzle.

Instead of being frustrated, now we feel excited that our products are selling on Zazzle consistently.

Instead of wasting time being overwhelmed and working too hard, now we make more money working less.
