How to Use the Rule of Three For Effective Zazzle Product Designs with Elke Clarke, Diamond ProDesigner on Zazzle

Have you ever wondered how to frame the perfect picture? Are you selling your photography on Zazzle products but not getting the sales you expected? An attractive and eye-pleasing photo takes planning. You need to think of how the subject images appear in your frame. By adhering to the “Rule of Three”, you can make sure your photo is perfectly balanced every time! Using this principle will help you take beautiful photos to create effective Zazzle product designs!

How to Use the Rule of Three For Effective Zazzle Product Designs

When making products using your photographs, you must use the “Rule of Three” in order to create effective designs that will sell on Zazzle. Your photo products on Zazzle will stand out using this rule. It is very simple. You can apply it to all your photographs, whether they be horizontal or vertical.

Watch this informative video where I explain the rule of three in design and how it works. You can take stunning photographs using the tips I teach you.

How the Rule of 3 in photography can be used to create perfect photographs, frame your subject with quadrants, and help you design Zazzle products that sell by Elke Clarke

Framing a Subject with the Rule of 3

Another tip is to divide your viewfinder into 3 equal vertical sections and 3 equal horizontal sections to create a grid with quadrants. You can do this visually but some cameras even have this as a setting to help novices frame the perfect shot.

So now that you have divided up your frame, what do you do with these imaginary lines and quadrants? The rule is to make sure that the key focus (main subject) in your shot is placed in one of the 4 cross-sections of these lines.

In my case, I am showing you the vertical shot I took of the mountain with the house on the beautiful island of Sa Dragonera, with is off the coast of Mallorca Spain.

The mountain is in the top left point where the lines intersect. Since this is my main focus, it is positioned properly for maximum effect of framing the subject in your shot. Also, there is nothing else that is significant on any of the other 3 points of intersection. That is good so that there is no visual competition from anything else in my photograph. There is one small tree, but since it is small and one of a grouping your eye does not focus there, rather it focuses on the mountain peak.

Use the Rule of 3 to place your photos on your Zazzle products

All you need to do is apply the rules and you will see how your photos will significantly change. Then use these same rules to place your photos on each product design area to create beautiful products on Zazzle.

Wasn’t that easy? Let me sum it up for you.

  1. Find a beautiful subject image
  2. Look for the components of the Rule of Three
  3. Make sure you have three subjects (a large, medium, and small subject in the viewfinder)  and that the main focus of the shot sits on one of the 4 intersection points when you divide your photo into quadrants.
  4. Look for these three elements in both horizontal and vertical formats when taking your shots
  5. Don’t try to use a horizontal image on a vertical product on Zazzle, because you will lose your subject framing effect of the Rule of Three and the effectiveness of your design.
