How to Make Money Online Using Zazzle Collections

How to Make Money Online Using Zazzle Collections

Do you want to know how to make money online using Zazzle Collections? You can earn money through sales royalties and affiliate referrals by promoting Zazzle Collections on social media sites including Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter. Zazzle is the world’s leading platform for quality custom consumer products and provides independent designers and well known brand names the opportunity to create and offer for sale billions of unique products to customers worldwide.

The Zazzle website also uses Collections to direct customers to related product sets and product themes. If you make a collection that is promoted on the website, it can bring traffic to your Zazzle store and possibly increase your product sales. It is definitely a feature you want to take full advantage of as a Zazzle associate and designer store owner.

What is a Zazzle Collection?

A Zazzle Collection is a tool which you can use to create a separate landing page on Zazzle for a group of Zazzle products of your choosing. These products can be your own product designs from your Zazzle store or any other products Zazzle sells, including name brands such as Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, Saturday Night Live, and Google Doodles, to name a few.

2 formats of a Zazzle Collection

Zazzle collections are available in a compact rectangular image format (as shown in the above image), which is great for sharing on social media sites such as FaceBook, Pinterest, Google+, Twitter and Tumblr. You can also use the collection image on your personal website or blog as a side panel ad or send in an email to your customer list.

The Zazzle Collection landing page is the second format option which is full-screen and consists of a banner, a title, a description and a visual listing of your chosen products.

What products can be in a Zazzle Collection?

Typically collections will have matching products in a set, such as a holiday photo card design will be displayed with the matching printed envelope, postage stamp, return address label, and envelope stickers. A second option is a collection of the same kind of item such as holiday photo cards with a certain theme. A third option, is a collection based more on a wish list or gift giving suggestions for a certain age group.

The options are endless but that is what makes Zazzle Collections so powerful as a marketing tool.

How to Make Money Online Using Zazzle Collections through Royalties and Referrals

Each Zazzle Collection page has an easy “share” option with links to popular social media sites. The Zazzle Collections can be used for promoting your own Zazzle products on your social media accounts, as well as through your email list, and on your blog or own website.

How to Earn Zazzle Royalty Income

Marketing your Zazzle Collections can drive more traffic to your Zazzle store or a specific product. Higher traffic will increase your chances of generating sales revenue from your Zazzle products, resulting in a higher royalty income.

How to Earn Zazzle Referral Income

Your unique Zazzle associate number is embedded in the URL link code of each Zazzle Collection when you use the share option. This creates the opportunity for you to earn 15% referral income if customers purchase ANY product after coming to Zazzle through your external link.

3 Ways to Create a Zazzle Collection

1. Create a Zazzle Collection directly from a Zazzle product page

You can create a Zazzle Collection in three ways. The first way is from a drop down menu while you are on the page of the product you want to include in your new collection. When you click on the “ADD” option as shown by the blue arrow in the image below, the drop down menu will have an empty field at the bottom in which you can type in your new collection name.

Once a Zazzle product is added to one of your collections, the “ADD” button will read “ADDED” when you are on that product page. Your product can be in more than one collection but for the purposes of this article we will use the product in only the one collection i.e. the Merrily Married Script Holiday Photo Collection.

2. Create a Zazzle Collection from your Zazzle Account Profile Page

The second way to create a collection is through your “Collections” tab on your Zazzle account profile, which you can see when you are logged in.  As shown by the blue arrow in the image below, there is an open box with a plus sign, which you can click to create a new collection.

3. Create a Zazzle Collection from a Zazzle Product Search

The third way to create a collection is from a product search result. As shown by the blue arrow in the image below, you can hover over a product you want to add to a collection. When the line icon on the top right becomes visible, click on it to open a pop-up window with a list of all of your collections you have already made, plus an option to create a new collection title.

How to Create a Completed Zazzle Collection

Edit the Text and Add Banner and Collection Cover Images

Think of a theme for your collection, a title and description. To edit your collection, click on the “edit” option under each collection (see above image). Clicking the “edit” option will bring up a pop-up window where you can add the title, description and add key word tags for the collection.

You will also need a few graphics for your collection, which can be made in any graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop. You will need a banner image (1140 x 315 pixels at 72 dpi) and a collection cover image (324 x 324 pixels at 72 dpi). You can save these images as jpeg files and use the “save for the web” option. The banner should be related to the theme of the collection and can be easily added by clicking the photo icon on the banner.

More Information on Adding a Collection Cover Image

To add the collection cover image, be in your collection section (as shown above) and hover your mouse over the top main image in each collection. An option to “Change the Cover Image” will appear and allow you to upload you cover image file.

You can see the “Merrily and Married Script Holiday Photo Collection” in the list as a completed collection (in the image above), including a cover image for the collection as the larger image in the grouping. If you don’t add a cover image, the last product you add to the collection will be in this top spot instead of the collection cover image. I highly recommend adding a cover image to each of your collections.

What Should Your Completed Zazzle Collection Look Like?

Clicking anywhere on the images in your collection will bring you to the landing page for your specific collection. The completed “Merrily Married Script Holiday Photo Collection”  page is shown in the image below.

A completed Zazzle Collection example shown with a title, description, banner image and at least 6 Zazzle products selected. Click on the image to be taken to the page on Zazzle.

The collection edit options are indicated by the blue arrows on the image above. This is the page where you can change the banner image, organize the order in which the products appear in your collection and access a link back to text edit window.

How to Make Money Online Using Zazzle Collections and Earn a 15% Referral Fee Using Social Media

When you use the “share” option on the collections page to promote your collections on social media or on your external website such, as a blog, your unique Zazzle associate number is automatically added to the URL link to your Zazzle collection. Each time someone clicks on your referral link and makes a purchase on Zazzle, you can earn a 15% referral fee on that sale, even if the product purchased is a different product from that of the collection link.

Promote Your Zazzle Collections on Social Media

Zazzle has made it easy for you to promote your collections. Just click on the “share” option on the collection page you want to promote. A pop-up menu comes up with your default options to FaceBook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and Tumblr. (See the image below).

How to Make Money Online Using Zazzle Collections. Use the "Share" option on the collection page to share a Zazzle Collection on social media sites such as Pinterest, FaceBook, Twitter, Tumblr as well as in emails and on your blog an websites.

Where to Find the URL Link Codes

On  the “share” button pop-up window, there is also a “chain link” option which you can use to open a second pop-up window  containing the code for a basic URL link, as well as the HTML code and BBCode for the link and image for your collection (see image below). If you are logged in to your Zazzle account, your unique associate number will already be part of these codes.

Zazzle provides the url link and HTML codes for adding a Zazzle Collection to your blog or website.

Zazzle provides the URL link and HTML codes for adding a Zazzle Collection to your blog, website or other social media site. The referral ID code has been blocked out for privacy.

Choose the Image Size for a Zazzle Collection

The pop-up window with the code for the links also gives you the option to choose the format of the image of your collection. You can choose whether it will be “portrait” or “square” or “landscape 1” or “landscape 2” (see the image above). This is a nice feature to accommodate the size restrictions of the various social media platforms you would like to use.

How to Track Your Referral Earnings

If you would like to track your referrals, then you can also add a tracking code to the end of your link using this code “&tc=insertyourtexthere”. You will have to do this manually when you are adding your link wherever your opportunity is to do so. Once you earn a referral the text you added after the “&tc=” code will appear in your “referral history” found on your “earnings page” under “referral reports”. This is a convenient way to track what social media campaigns were successful.

2 Options for Posting A Zazzle Collection on Twitter

To post on Twitter, use the “share” option on a Zazzle collection page and select the Twitter icon. You have two options for creating a tweet. The text with a link to your Zazzle collection plus your referral code will be created for you.

The first option is to copy the HTML code for the image in the Zazzle “Link” (the icon which looks like a chain link) pop-up window and add it to your tweet before posting. From a marketing perspective, a visual is always helpful in creating customer interest, so take advantage of the visual impact you can make with your tweet.

The second option is just the text format, which you can add hashtags to if you wish before uploading your text. See the image below for a comparison of how each option looks on Twitter.

There are 2 options for posting a Zazzle Collection on Twitter, with an image or just the plain text. The visual impact is more powerful and will more likely catch a customer’s attention.

As you can see from my LWI user name, I am using my external website name “Luxury Wedding Invites” (LuxuryWeddingInvites.com) as my common business name for all my social media user names to promote my wedding designs.

Post a Zazzle Collection to a Google+ Business Account

Use the “share” option on the Zazzle Collection page and choose the Google+ icon. The image below shows how your collection will look on Google Plus. You can see that it is important to create descriptive titles, because on the Google+ post only the title is visible.

In the pop-up window you will see an option to add additional text before posting. It is highly recommended that you use this option to describe your collection.

The advantage of Zazzle Collections is the ease with which you can promote then to your social media sites. The more you promote the more opportunities you will create for earning referrals on sales. So “go forth” and share your Zazzle Collections!

How to Make Money Online Using Zazzle Collections and Earn a Royalty on Sales of Your Zazzle Products

The use of  Zazzle Collections to showcase your Zazzle products have multiple benefits on the Zazzle website itself, all of which can help increase your sales and thus your royalty earnings. Zazzle Collections are being showcased on product pages, and themed collections are options on navigation menus, as well as, being on feature landing pages. Creating Zazzle Collections of your Zazzle products is a must to take full advantage of the potential promotional opportunities they could provide within the Zazzle marketplace.

Zazzle Collections Can Promote Related Product Sales

If a customer is viewing a product which is part of a Zazzle Collection, then a section below the main product image will showcase the other products in the collection under the header “Found in Collection:  …… by ………….”.

A collection is a powerful tool you can use to cross-promote matching items.

Continuing with our example from above, the Merrily Married Script Holiday Photo Collection showcases the holiday photo flat card and coordinating postage stamp, return address labels, wraparound return address labels, stickers, postcards, greeting cards and photo card. If the customer likes this design, they can now find all the other card options as well as mailing accessories in one spot, increasing the chances of matching product sales.

The image below shows how the products in the collection appear under the main product on the product page.

Gain Exposure in the Zazzle Collections Section

In the “SHOP” drop-down navigation menu on Zazzle, you will find a section called “Collections”. If you click on this option, you come to a page titled “Trending Collections”. This is an ever-changing list of all the collections created by all users on Zazzle which can be sorted by “trending” or by “newest”. (See the image below)

The 5 tags you add to your collections are important for customer key word searches

Under the Zazzle collections section, there is also a search option, which can help customers find a particular collection by key words. The 5 key word tags you add to each collection are therefore important to being found by customers on this collections page.

Create Zazzle Collections with Timely Themes

At the time of writing this article, everyone is getting ready for the December Holiday season. A collection with a holiday card theme will be searched more often during this time of year. If you haven’t made one yet of all your great holiday cards, I recommend you do so. I created my own Holiday Card collection (see below).

A Themed Zazzle Collection can be a great marketing tool for your Zazzle products

A Themed Zazzle Collection can be a great marketing tool for your Zazzle products.

Your Collection Could Be Featured on a Zazzle Landing Page

On the Christmas Cards landing page on Zazzle.com, you will find “Featured Collections” with a selection of holiday card collections showcasing matching products (see the image below). This is another way your products can receive exposure to potential Zazzle customers via Collections.

Zazzle-collections-on-featured-pages

The marketing department works on these themed landing pages well in advance of the holiday season. To have a chance of being chosen for one of these “Featured Collection” sections, your collections should be posted early, have a nice banner, a title, a description, 5 key word tags and contain at least 6 products.

This completes the section on how to make make money online using Zazzle collections to earn royalty income. Zazzle is using Zazzle Collections in many ways to promote groupings of products. It is clear that Zazzle Collections offer a new opportunity to Zazzle store owners to receive visibility in the Zazzle marketplace besides a product search based on popularity. I highly recommend taking advantage of what Zazzle Collections have to offer to help you increase your Zazzle royalty and referral income.

Summary on How to Make Money Online Using Zazzle Collections

    Hi Elke
Many thanks for your helpful book and this great article. I am very new to this and to be honest, struggling to progress. I’m in the unconscious incompetence part of the learning curve! You’re a real inspiration.

What would be really helpful, and for any other international sellers (I’m English) is how to complete the tax form Zazzle want so we don’t pay US tax (in addition to our own tax). I was so confused and worried about it after seeing postings in the forums that I have lost my motivation to make products. I wrote to Zazzle and they just told me to fill in this form but you have to get a special US tax ID number by filling in yet another form. I am told that it is a very complicated process requiring sending an original passport to the IRS in Texas! (My passport has expired.) Surely that cannot be right. I know you are a Canadian citizen so how did you do it please? Many thanks. Alison

Hi Alison. Thank you for your comment regarding the tax forms. Yes. It does seem daunting but if you look on the IRS website, it explains what the process entails. For now you just need an EIN rather than a ITIN, but if in the future it changes, it would make sense to work on obtain the ITIN as well. You do NOT send your original passport. You go to the proper passport issuing office and have them make certified copies for you. Then you send a certified copy of your passport and the correctly filled out form. It is too detailed to write as an answer here, but it is more important to complete the form then try retrieve 30% of your withheld income from the IRS at a later point. Don’t be discouraged, it is doable. Elke

Hi Lark Designs. I do apologize for not posting on my blog. I have been traveling and enjoying my freedom of making 6 figures online with passive income from Zazzle. Even with all of the changes Zazzle has made, I am still going to make over six figures in 2016. I have also been working on a beginners online course to help people get started on Zazzle. It has been quite an undertaking and learning experience for me. I am not tech savvy so the learning curve has been steep, but I hope to have it ready for everyone soon. All the best. Elke

    Hi Elke,
Thanks for sharing all this helpful information. I’ve copied the HTML code and added it to the Tweet share box on a collection but it’s not allowing me to tweet because I’ve gone over 140 characters.
I’ve obviously done something wrong. I’ve tried it with several collections with the same results but get the same message.
Thanks for any further guidance on this.

You can tweet your collections directly from the collections page (click on the share), but if you want to manually put the link into your tweet, you can always shorten the link by going to bitly.com. This will help you shorten the link to post in your tweet.
Thanks for your comment and I hope this helps.

    Hi Patricia,
Posting a tweet with html will not work. This should only be used when sharing the image on a website. When you share a product directly from Zazzle with the tweet button, the product image shows in your tweet. However sharing your collection will only come up with text in the tweet.
    Hope this helps!

    Thanks Elke,

In the information on “POSTING A ZAZZLE COLLECTION ON TWITTER” illustration it reads “copy and past the HTML code from the “link” pop-up window into the Tweet edit box before posting via the Zazzle “share” button.

I thought you knew some secret about using the code so that’s why I was trying to use the code.

After reading your illustration information again, I clicked the “link” pop-up and made screenshot of the “image” from the size I wanted to use in my tweet. Then I pasted that copy into the link as my image.

Thanks again for making look deeper into the options available.

    Cheers,
    Patricia

    Hi Elke,

Thanks so much for your very useful blog posts! I subscribe to your emails and have received so many great tips already. I’ve been on Zazzle for about 4 months & am still learning through trial, error, & reading up on everything.

I have a question regarding posting collections on Pinterest. If I pin, say, one of your collections on one of my boards, will my rf number be attached to said collection and if something from that collection sells directly from my board, do I get the 15% referral fee?

    Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Marcia. Thank you for your positive feedback about my blog posts.

Yes, if you are logged in to your Zazzle account then no matter what you promote using the Zazzle share buttons, your associate code (referral code) will be attached and you will receive the referral payout of 15% if someone clicks on the external link is taken to Zazzle and buys ANYTHING. It doe snot have to be what you promoted. You get the referral for bringing the customer to Zazzle and them buying. Don’t forget to add your tracking code to the end of the whole link code Zazzle provides. i.e. add &tc=anythingyouwanttotypehere to the end of the code generated by Zazzle.
